AN INCLUSIVE ASSESSMENT TOOL

AN INCLUSIVE ASSESSMENT TOOL

Pratham and CBM in partnership are working on ensuring the right to education for learners with disabilities. In pursuit of this aim an emerging need that came up, by virtue of implementing various learning enhancement programs is, the lack of any assessments that highlight the needs of all learners and in particular needs of learners  with disabilities. Thus, in collaboration with Pratham’s ASER Centre the team has attempted to develop an inclusive assessment tool namely, Assessment for All (AfA) Tool.

The AfA tool is developed to align to international and national policy recommendations on the need to address ‘learning crisis’ and provide an equitable platform for education for all learners with varying learning pace.

It provides a platform for reliable measurement of learning which would further develop accountability for the major stakeholders.

The tool is comprised of language and math instruments that include a variety of tasks to assess learners on their foundational skills of literacy and numeracy. The data collected on the performance of learners will help generate a comprehensive narrative of learner’s present level of knowledge.

The AfA Tool has been developed with a prime focus on including learners with disabilities in the assessment system by addressing their needs, and providing appropriate accommodations to cater to those needs. The tool employs principles of Universal Design to make reasonable accommodations and ensure equitable opportunities to learners to express their learning.
